Jimmy Carl Black, 1938-2008

It is my sad duty to report the news that JIMMY CARL BLACK has passed away. Jimmy left this earth around 11pm Germany time on October 31st. of cancer.

Jimmy lived his life by the second, enjoying each and every bit of it ,
and still always had plenty to share with everyone he came in contact with. He enriched and inspired many many people's lives and opened so many artistic doors for the rest of us to walk through and reap the benefits.

Although tears do run down my cheeks I know Jimmy would not want us to be sad. He has said to me many times how important his fans were to him and in his last days it was his family he was most concerned with.

A fantastic benefit concert is being planned for December 7th in California, please visit this site for more up to date details. Jimmy's son Geronimo and myself along with many of Jimmy's dear friends intend to keep Inkanish Records alive and thriving to keep Jimmy's music and high ideals alive.
We also are going to do all we can to get Jimmy into the
Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame where he has belonged for years!

Joe's Garage Takes The Stage in Hollywood

The Open Fist has announced that it will present the world premiere of a stage adaptation of Frank Zappa’s classic rock opera Joe's Garage. This production is adapted for the stage by Pat Towne and Michael Franco, will be directed by Towne and feature musical direction by Ross Wright and choreography by Jennifer Letteleir. The production, produced with permission from the Zappa Family Trust, will run September 18 through November 22.

Joe's Garage tells us the story of Joe, a simple guitar player in a garage band, as he is drawn into the dark and nightmarish world of the music business. As Joe deteriorates from betrayal, disease, and madness, our narrator, the Central Scrutinizer asserts that music is responsible for his demise, and is therefore evil. The piece uses the simplicity of a high school musical to focus on myriad issues from governmental surveillance of its own citizenry to the sexual escapades of the Catholic Church to the avarice of the music business.

Towne recently directed an award-winning production of Gorey Stories, a theatrical adaptation with music of the works of Edward Gorey, for the Sacred Fools Theater. A founding member of the Zoo District Theatre Company, Towne has directed and performed in several of its productions including the world premiere of Bulgakov’s Heart of a Dog at the Ivan Franko National Theatre in Kiev, Ukraine. Among his other credits, The Real Live Brady Bunch Off-Broadway.

Franco has received LA Weekly, LADCC, Ovation and Garland Awards for his work on such productions as The Room, The Swine Show, Gorey Stories, Heart of a Dog, Uppa Creek, The Master and Margarita and Nosferatu for The Zoo District, The Sacred Fools and The Open Fist Theatre Companies.

Performances of Joe's Garage will be Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm Sundays at 7pm at The NEW Open Fist Theatre (6209 Santa Monica Blvd. -former home of The Actor’s Gang) in Hollywood. Tickets are $15-$25 and can be purchased by calling 323-882-6912 or by visiting www.openfist.org.

Zappafan.net is an unofficial online community dedicated to the music of Frank Zappa, created and operated by fans. Humble Grumble koncertek januárban

"Az egyik legdinamikusabb és legváltozatosabb csapat mely valaha létezett Belgiumban, már több, mint 10 éve ad eredeti showműsorokat."

Humble Grumble betör az unalomban úszó szürke hétköznapi életbe és egy emlékezetes napot hagy maga után azok számára, akik szeretik a jó kedélyt és a vérpezsdítő ritmusokat, melyeket az eseményhez illő improvizált melódiák díszítenek. Humble Grumble zenéjének változatossága különböző zenei irányzatok merészen összerázott koktéljából épül fel, mely a forró szerelem egységébe van belegyurmázva, tehát jég nélkül fogyasztható.

A nemzetközi felállású zenekar az eddigi kizárólagos nyugat-európai működés után bejelentette, hogy szerencsét próbál a világban és útra kel. Magyarország, nevezetesen Tiszaújváros lesz az első állomása január 25-én a Humble (Vörös) Gábor által vezetett társaságnak, aki valaha Vöriga néven volt ott ismert és egy meghitt, családias koncertet nyomnak majd a Traffic Club-ban. Január 26-án a debreceni Klinika Mozi szinpadán látható a nemzetközi csapat. Belgiumban Fank Zappához hasonlítják Humble Grumble zenéjét, valójában viszont a poliritmikus, jazz-rock-os dalok és az előadásmód az öt különböző nemzetből származó zenészeknek egyedi világát ábrázolja, amely a magyar, finn, chilei, belga és amerikai zenészek hisztérikus ötvözetének eredménye.

"Átutazóban voltunk és itt ragadtunk. Néhányan évekig gondolkoztunk azon, miért is maradtunk itt Gent-ben és vajon így lesz ez örökké?" Gent mindenféle-fajta művész hazája és a hét minden napján van hova mennie a városlakóknak, az élő zene már annyira a mindennapi élet részévé vált, hogy jóformán nincs olyan szórakozóhely, ahol ne lenne egy héten legalább egy koncert, vagy jam session.
Belgium egyik legnagyobb konzervatóriuma is Gent-ben található, ahol a világ minden részéről jönnek tanárok/diákok. Humble Grumble ennek a városnak már a különlegességévé vált és majdnem minden évben láthatók a helyi fesztivál főszínpadán.
